Rogue Tendency Album Review: RTep

After listening to Rogue Tendency’s newest album RTep with my best friend Alisa, we had quite a few good things to say about it. This was not my first time listening to this group, since I’ve seen them at a house show last semester and let’s just say they know how to have a good time. I was expecting them to bring the heat in their new album, and I was not disappointed.rtepThe first song on the album, “Alpha,” was the most obscure of them all. Lacking vocals completely, it was quite the opener for a rap/hip hop group. “DJ Jokojo sounds like he’s producing music for white people to take acid to,” Alisa noted. We both agreed this song sounded very experimental but it made us excited to hear what was on the rest of the album. After just seeing the title of the second song, “Rogue Tendency Gangster Crawl,” I was ecstatic to hear what fire this group would collectively spit. Boy, did they spit fire. Rogue Tendency’s flow is always mad decent (that means pretty frickin’ good in the rap world). The word flow was phenomenal, impressive, and never ending. There was a good beat you could bop your head to while these boys threw it down on this track, and quite frankly the whole album. Some other notable tracks with sick beats and smooth lyrics were “Kill Em with Kindness,” “Bang, Bang,” and “Wristbands” featuring the great MC Rota. “Kill Em with Kindness” has a catchy track in the background while still boasting meaningful lyrics. The chorus is also prone to get stuck in your head, which you shouldn’t complain about because the lyrics actually aren’t violent or inappropriate like many rap songs nowadays. The other two songs are bangers that are fierce and fire flame. All the artists go hard in the paint on this album to give you something you want to listen to again and again. Their voices make your ears crave more after every song. Overall, this album is an amazing release. It leaves listeners on the edge of their seat waiting to hear what the next song brings and anxiously waiting for the next album to drop. Like any good album, once your computer plays the last song and you’re left in a silent awe you’’ll be itching for just one more song.
