Surfer Blood Concert Preview

Beloved Florida indie rockers Surfer Blood are coming to Urbana and they’re bringing their signature surf-washed sound and catchy guitar hooks with them. The four-piece band has had some huge obstacles to overcome—notably the tragic death of guitarist and songwriter Thomas Fekete in 2016—understandably, many weren’t sure what to expect from the band after the loss of such a pivotal member. Surfer Blood as a collective, heroically overcame tragedy and channeled their grief deeply into the lyricism of their newest album, Snowdonia. The group entered the forefront of the indie rock scene upon the release of their 2010 album, Astro Coast, and have been steadily producing projects ever since. Although they're best known for being champions of soaring, guitar-driven surf pop, their entire body of work simultaneously boasts honest, visceral and compelling songwriting. Snowdonia is Surfer Blood’s attempt to push their own boundaries and experiment both sonically and lyrically. In an interview with AXS, lead singer John Paul Pitts said, “I’m really proud of the record we made, it’s way different from anything we’ve done.” Hearing an artist articulate their pride and joy towards their work, especially during times of adversity, is music to our ears.Coming fresh off the back of what might be their most emotionally raw album yet, this is a show you won’t want to miss. See Surfer Blood, as well as NE-HI and The Dry Look, at the Canopy Club this October 18th at 9:00 PM. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
